The Prairie View A&M Panthers close out a brief homestand tonight versus Arkansas-Pine Bluff at 7:30 p.m. in the Baby Dome. Fans should expect an intense contest which should come down to the wire based on past experiences with the average margin of victory only 5.2 points between both teams over the past 13 meetings. The contest will be shown live on PANTHERVISION and also broadcast on KPVU 91.3 FM.
The Panthers returned to the win column on Saturday night as they held off a late charge by Mississippi Valley State for an 80-77 win. Senior Jourdan DeMuynck led the way with a double-double of 27 points and 10 rebounds during the win. The Panthers also received an impressive performance from senior post Mayol Riathin as the Sudan, Africa native grabbed nine rebounds and scored eight points off the bench.
With SWAC Tournament play nearing, every game is about seeding as the Panthers are a half-game out of the No. 2 seed as Arkansas-Pine Bluff and Texas Southern are ineligible for this year's tourney in Garland, Texas. The Panthers control their own destiny at this point as three of their next five games are against teams ahead of them at this point in the SWAC standings.
DeMuynck is continuing his impressive stretch of scoring this season as he leads the Panthers with 15.1 points per game and is pulling down a team-high 6.5 rebounds per outing. Senior guard Carl Blair follows with 10 points and a team-high five assists.
