The Lady Panthers held their ground vs. Alabama State and Alabama A&M in the William Nicks Building during their late January home-stand. Now the Prairie View A&M women's basketball team looks to complete the season sweep of the Alabama schools starting with Alabama State at 3 p.m. on Saturday in Montgomery, Ala.
Prairie View A&M is fresh off of an emotional and last-moment 62-59 win over Arkansas-Pine Bluff at home in the Williams Nicks Building, and it will try to carry the momentum of that win and the recent scoring streak of sophomore point guard Jeanette Jackson into Montgomery.
Jackson is the team leader in points per game over the last four contest, averaging 14.5 for Lady Panthers third-year coach Toyelle Wilson. She has done her damage by taking opponents off of the dribble and finishing at the rim or drawing contact for the foul. Jackson is averaging 7.3 points, 2.8 assists and 2.0 rebounds per game on the season.
She will look for double-double machine Latia Williams (13 points, 9.1 rebounds) and Kiara Etienne (10.3 points) to make plays from mid-range and three-point territory. The last time out vs. Alabama State Quentori Alford and Danielle Gazaway combined for 22 points against the Lady Panthers. Slowing the inside-out combo down will be a priority for Prairie View A&M.
