Lady Panthers Win Easily Over Texas College, Moves Grambling Series To Saturday

TYLER, Texas - Prairie View A&M had little trouble on the diamond with a 19-1, 10-0 doubleheader sweep over Texas College at Fun Forest Park on Thursday afternoon.

In game one, Prairie View A&M combined to score 16 runs in the fourth and fifth frames to run away with the 19-1 win.

The Lady Panthers scored three times in the top of the first as Lexus Walker, Brenecia Woods and Kelly Scruggs recorded RBIs. Alexus Colbert and Scruggs led a five-run fourth with RBIs while Peyton Simms homered over the left field wall in the fifth for an 11-run surge to put the game away.

Alissa Navarro, the reigning SWAC Player of the Week, finished 4-for-4 with four runs and an RBI while Simms, Colbert and Woods tallied three hits each. Simms, Colbert, Walker, Woods, Scruggs and Keshae Evans each drove in two RBIs. Sarina Rios improved to 2-0 on the season as she pitched a three-hitter.

Lauren Grun struck out a season-high 12 batters while Leanna Flores and Alexis Lang shined offensively in a 10-0 shutout.

PV scored a run in the first two innings before breaking the game open in the third as Lang hit a grand slam over the left field fence as her homer highlighted a seven-run third. Katelyn Den Beste drove in a run in the fourth to seal the win as PV claimed the season series over Texas College 4-0.

Flores was red hot at the plate as she finished 4-for-4 with one run and an RBI. Lang tallied four RBIs while Den Beste drove in two runs. Grun pitched a one-hitter with 12 strikeouts as she improved to 4-3.

Due to field conditions at Grambling State, this weekend's SWAC series has been pushed back as PV will face GSU on Saturday and Sunday instead of Friday-Saturday. Saturday's doubleheader will start at noon while Sunday's single game is also at noon in Grambling, La.
