BOX SCORE
HOUSTON – Prairie View A&M began its final regular season series of the year on a down note as TSU pulled out a 5-2 win at Memorial Park on Friday.
PV moved ahead 1-0 in the first as Brenecia Woods scored on a TSU fielding error for the early lead. TSU tied the contest at 1-all in the bottom of the first as Jessica Haynes hit a solo homer and moved ahead 3-1 in the second on Haynes' two-RBI triple.
Senior third baseman Kelly Scruggs trimmed PV's deficit to 3-2 in the top of the fourth as her solo homer cleared the left field wall. However, TSU answered PV's score with a run in the fourth before adding another in the sixth for the final margin.
In the seventh, PV continued to fight as freshman Tiffany Robertson hit a one out single followed by back-to-back two out singles from junior shortstop Leanna Flores and Woods. TSU was forced to make a pitching change to counter PV's offensive burst and closed the game out with a game-ending pop fly to right field.
Woods led PV with a 2-for-3 outing at the plate while Cally Falls fell to 9-11 with the loss.
The series concludes tomorrow as PV will face TSU in a noon doubleheader at Memorial Park.
