Regular Season Ends On Disappointing Note For Lady Panther Softball

BOX SCORE

HOUSTON – Prairie View A&M closed out the regular season in a condition similar to the weather on Saturday as TSU claimed a 5-3 win at Memorial Park. Game two was suspended due to weather conditions with TSU leading 9-1 in the first.

A two-run fifth by TSU broke a deadlocked game as they claimed a 5-3 win in the opener.

TSU scored three times in the first for a 3-0 lead and held on until the fourth as PV fought back with a trio of runs for a 3-3 advantage. In the fourth, Peyton Simms scored the game's first run followed by Alisa Navarro's sacrifice RBI and Shontel Lopez's RBI to score Brenecia Woods. With one out and one on in the fifth, a PV fielding error allowed TSU to sneak a runner on base which eventually turned into a two-run deficit as an RBI double from Chelsea Guenther gave TSU a 5-3 margin. TSU retired the final six PV batters in order to claim the win.

In game two, PV scored first but broke down defensively in the bottom frame as TSU scored nine times for a 9-1 margin. The game was suspended after the first as inclement weather rolled into the Houston area for the remainder of the day.

PV closes out the regular season with a 17-21 record and a 7-9 SWAC mark. The Lady Panthers are the No. 3 seed from the SWAC West and will move on to SWAC Tournament play at Wilson Morgan Park in Decatur, Ala. The tourney runs from May 8-11.
