BOX SCORE
Prairie View A&M was competitive in a 3-1 loss to Incarnate Word on Sunday afternoon, but a couple of quick scores ultimately proved to be too much for the Lady Panthers.
Incarnate Word scored two goals in less than six minutes in a time spanning between the first and second periods to take a 2-0 lead. The Cardinals scored in the 43rd minute off of a rebound. Lady Panthers goalie Dominique Dillon made a diving save, but Incarnate Word forward Sydney Solomon took a through pass from Katie Miller to give the Cardinals a 1-0 lead heading into the locker room.Â
Dillon was kept busy in the first half. The Lady Panthers were outshot 11-to-2 by Incarnate Word. Dillon had three saves in the process. The Cardinals scored in the 49th minute against new keeper Sierra Golding, who played the second period.
However, attacking midfielder Celene Batrez scored her second goal of the season in the 53rd minute. She scored off of a header to cut her team's deficit to 2-1 and put the Lady Panthers within striking distance.
The Incarnate Word attack, however, continued and a costly mistake led to another goal for the Cardinals. In an attempt to clear the ball, Lady Panthers defender Kamra Brown accidentally kicked the ball into her own goal and the Cardinals pulled away.
Prairie View A&M fell to 0-2 season and will try to get on the right track in 7 p.m. match on Aug. 30, at Texas State.Â
