NATCHITOCHES, La. - The Lady Panthers soccer team was not able to overcome an early deficit at Northwestern State and dropped a 2-0 match on the road.
Trailing 2-0 in the second period, Prairie View A&M went on the offensive. On a breakaway in the 62nd minute, it looked like forward Angie Guillory was in prime position to score. She she took a through pass from midfielder Katherine Sheppard and used a spin move, followed by a speed burst to race past several defenders and end up in a one-on-one situation with Northwestern State goal keeper Brooke Bourbonais. Guillory's first shot was on a line directly to Bourbonais, who deflected it. Guillory took another shot on goal after the deflection buy it was blocked by a Demons defender to set up a corner kick.Â
Off of the corner kick by midfielder Melissa Kalbfeisch, Lady Panthers midfielder Carly Detter took a shot that was deflected by Bourbonais for another corner. The second one resulted in a shot by Sheppard, which was deflected. Those scoring opportunities would be the highlight of the Lady Panthers' offensive afternoon.
Lady Panthers goal keeper Sierra Golding, who played 14 minutes minutes before being replaced by Dominique Dillon in the first period was given the loss after giving up a goal in the fifth minute to Northwestern State's Brooke Eastburg. Golding dropped to 0-2. Dillon played 76 minutes for the Lady Panthers and had seven saves and two goals scored against.Â
The Lady Panthers dropped to 0-7 while Northwestern State improved to 2-5 on the season.Â
