Guillory Scores Two Goals In Big Win Over Howard On Soccer Field

BOX SCORE

The crowd roared in anticipation as junior forward Celene Batrez raced through the Bison back line with her mind set on one thing - scoring for the Lady Panthers. Seeing there were no other options open, she sent a cross to senior forward Angie Guillory, who was in perfect position to score the Lady Panthers' second goal.

Guillory put the ball in the back of the net and put the game out of reach for the Howard Bison. She lead the charge for the Prairie View A&M Lady Panthers, scoring her first two goals of the season in defeating Howard 2-0 on Sunday at the PV Soccer Field.

The Lady Panthers offensively overwhelmed the Bison (2-4-1), out-shooting them 16-to-11. Guillory made the first goal seem effortless, scoring on a penalty kick during the 32nd minute.  After a Bison defender was called for a handball, Guillory prepared to take the kick in a one-on-one situation with the goalkeeper. In the back of her mind Guillory kept telling her self one thing.

"I gotta make this," Guillory said.

Batrez wanted Guillory to know she had the support of her and the rest of her teammates.

"I had faith in her," Batrez said. "She was going to make it."

Guillory gave the Panthers a 1-0 lead over the Bison after scoring the goal.

In the second period, Batrez entered the field ready to seal the deal for the Panthers taking 3 shots and setting up Guillory for the second goal of the game.

Sophomore goalkeeper Dominique Dillon kept the Bison scoreless in 90 minutes, saving eight shots on goal. Howard's offense proved to be no match. Dillon and her teammates couldn't contain their excitement after picking up their first win.

"This win was much needed," Batrez said. "It gave us a lot of confidence; there's nothing better than winning!"

The Lady Panthers (1-7) will take on Jackson State on Oct. 4th and Southern on Oct. 6th to kick off the SWAC season.
