Prairie View A&M looks to string together back-to-back wins for the first time this season, and Texas Southern is the team that stands in the way of that accomplishment. The Lady Panthers take on Southwestern Athletic Conference rival TSU at 5:30 on Saturday in H&PE Arena for the first time since defeating the Lady Tigers in the SWAC Tournament Semi-Final game.
The Lady Panthers will try to ride the momentum of a 71-68 win over Alcorn State on Monday in which they had four players score in double figures for the first time this season and more importantly iced the game thanks to clutch free throw shooting in the final 13 seconds as interim head coach Dawn Brown picked up her first career win.
Junior point guard Jeanette Jackson was not the leading scorer for the Lady Panthers for just the fourth time this season, but her 15 points and season-high nine assists were critical in Prairie View A&M's win. Gabrielle Scott led the way with 16 points on 4-of-5 shooting from three-point territory for a team-high. Meanwhile, junior center Larissa Scott amassed her fourth-consecutive double-double with 15 points and 13 rebounds.
Larissa Scott got much-needed help in the post in the form of Shamiya Brooks, who scored a career-high 11 points to complement five rebounds and three momentum-shifting blocks.
In picking up four-consecutive double-doubles Larissa Scott is the only player other than Prairie View A&M great Latia Williams to accomplish that feat in the last four years. She is averaging 8.7 points and a career-high 9.2 rebounds. Jackson will need to have another well-rounded game putting up high assists numbers if she plans on leading the team to victory. The Lady Panthers are 3-0 in the last three seasons with Jackson has nine or more assists.
Containing the SWAC's leading scorer in Jazzmin Parker will be a priority for Prairie View A&M. Parker is averaging 22.1 points per game at the shooting guard position and has help in the form of Brianna Sidney who has 12.1 points per game. The two form the highest-scoring duo in the SWAC, and the Lady Panthers will need a combination of disciplined defense and efficient offense to make things difficult for the TSU playmakers.
