GRAMBLING, La. - Even though Monday is designated as a national holiday dedicated towards Martin Luther King, the Prairie View A&M men's and women's basketball teams won't have the day off as they're headed to Northern Louisiana for a SWAC showdown at Grambling State inside the Fredrick C. Hobdy Assembly Center beginning at 5:30 p.m. Both games will be broadcast live on KPVU 91.3 FM.
The Prairie View A&M men's basketball team returns to action on Monday night looking for their first winning streak of the 2013-14 campaign after a double OT win at Jackson State on Saturday. The contest marked the third straight OT contest for the Panthers since Jan. 6.
Grambling State, which went winless last season, has won one contest this fall and is looking to snap a 23-game SWAC losing streak. GSU came within two points of defeating TSU on Saturday evening as newcomer A'Torri Shine and Antwan Scott lead the team with 16.3 and 13.8 points, respectively. PVAMU has won 11 of the past 12 games versus GSU since 2008 as head coach
Byron Rimm II is 11-3 lifetime versus Grambling State and 4-1 in The Assembly Center.
On the women's side, the Lady Panthers are coming off an emotional 83-82 double overtime loss to Jackson State on Saturday.
Prairie View A&M has dominated Grambling State since 2006 as they're 18-1 against GSU during that span. GSU's last win over PVAMU occurred on Feb. 15, 2010 in Prairie View, Texas as they defeated them 68-65. PVAMU was down to only nine players due to injury at the time. In Grambling, the Lady Panthers are on a roll as they've won six straight with the last loss occurring in 2005.
