While the temperature may be cold outside, the William Nicks Building won't as the Prairie View A&M men's and women's basketball teams prpeare for an important SWAC showdown versus Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Saturday afternoon in Prairie View.  The doubleheader tips off at 3 p.m. with the men's contest 30 minutes after the end of the women's contest.

The Prairie View A&M Lady Panthers are beginning to come into their own as they return home for a two-game homestand versus Arkansas-Pine Bluff this afternoon and Mississippi Valley State on Monday evening.

The Lady Panthers are fresh off a 72-61 road win over Grambling State this past Monday evening and came within one point of sweeping their previous road trip as they fell in double overtime to Jackson State on Saturday, Jan. 18.  Despite a rough preseason start, the Lady Panthers have been competitive in SWAC play as every contest has come down to the final minute en route to a 2-3 league mark.

Prairie View A&M is 6-2 over UAPB since 2010 as both teams held ground on its respective home courts last season en route to the season split.  At home in the Baby Dome, the Lady Panthers have won seven straight over the Lady Lions dating back to Jan. 21, 2006.

Junior guard Jeanette Jackson is having a career season as the Las Vegas, Nev. native is averaging 18.5 points and 3.5 assists per game.  Jackson, who has already posted eight games with 20-plus points, is coming off a 29-point outing at Grambling State on Monday night.  Since the start of SWAC play, Jackson has scored 25 or more points in three of PVAMU's five league games.  Junior forward Larissa Scott is the team's top rebounder with 8.5 boards in addition to scoring 8.3 points per game.  The team has also received timely scoring from redshirt sophomore guard Gabrielle Scott (6.7), freshman Alexus Parker (6.4) while also receiving a defensive boost from sophomore post Shamiya Brooks (14 blocks).

Fresh off a two-game road sweep, the Prairie View A&M men's basketball team returns to the friendly confines of the William Nicks Building for a two-game homestand versus Arkansas-Pine Bluff this evening and Mississippi Valley State on Monday night.

The Panthers are coming off a hard-fought road sweep over Jackson State and Grambling State as both games came down to the wire.  Since SWAC play began on Jan. 4, Panther fans have lived on the edge of their seats as the team has played three overtime contests with the average margin of victory being three points.  As a result of the wins, the Panthers are caught in a four-team logjam for third place and are a half-game out of second place.

Junior guard Montrael Scott has been the team's most consistent player with 14.6 points per contest and a 41 percent mark from the three-point line.  Junior guard John Brisco follows with 11.5 points while senior forward Demondre Chapman leads the team with 5.1 rebounds and 10.7 points.
