BOX SCORE FORT WORTH - TCU led from start to finish as the Horned Frogs used a 12-0 second half run to pull away from Prairie View A&M by a 71-54 margin on Friday evening in Fort Worth, Texas.
It took nearly six minutes for the Panthers to register a point until
Montrael Scott's free throw pulled PVAMU to within 5-1. A layup by
Karim York at the 13:44 mark registered PVAMU's first field goal of 2014 and the Panthers shook off their slow start as
John Brisco's layup pulled the team to within 9-5 with 13:07 remaining.
In what would become a trend throughout the night, every time PVAMU would close the gap, TCU found ways to expand its lead. Over the next several minutes, TCU went on an 11-4 surge to lead 20-9 but back-to-back treys from junior
Karim York fueled a brief PVAMU run which closed the gap to 24-19 with 3:38 left in the half. TCU's Kyan Anderson answered with a three-pointer to up its lead to 27-19 and eventually a 30-23 halftime advantage.
The deficit grew to 33-23 as the second half began but the Panthers fought back and went on an 8-3 run which saw Scott score six points. The Panthers cut the margin to four (38-34) once again after a
Jacoby Green trey but the tide of the game turned as TCU outscored PVAMU 12-0 during a five-minute drought. The Panthers finally found the scoreboard with a pair of
Charleston Dobbs' free throws but the damage was done as by TCU cooled off, the Panthers were down 60-38 with 6:11 left and would never recover.
York and
Tre Hagood led PVAMU with 13 points apiece while Scott added 11. Hagood also added a team-high seven rebounds with five assists.
The Panthers head to Oklahoma State on Sunday for a 2 p.m. showdown in Stillwater, Okla.
