BOX SCORE STILLWATER, Okla. – A promising first half was derailed by slow start in the second half as Oklahoma State pulled away for a 74-52 win over Prairie View A&M on Sunday afternoon.
The Panthers were neck-and-neck with the Cowboys throughout the first half as OSU could never pull away despite having a nine-point margin late in the half. With OSU up by nine at the 1:22 mark, newcomer Jaryn Johnson logged a steal and a three-point play the old-fashioned way to draw the Panthers to within 31-25 with 48 seconds left. OSU missed a three-pointer on the ensuing possession but the Panthers failed to capitalize with a turnover to end the half.
After a solid first half, the Panthers struggled to open the second half as they shot 2-for-13 from the field while OSU found a rhythm en route to outscoring the Panthers 20-4 during a span which lasted nearly nine minutes. A 9-1 run by PVAMU closed the gap to 14 at the 8:52 mark but that would be as close as they would get the remainder of the contest.
Montrael Scott led PVAMU with 16 points followed by 12 from Tre Hagood. Hagood had a double-double with 12 rebounds while also accounting for two steals.
The Panthers return to action on Wednesday night at 7 p.m. as they'll travel to Rice.
