BOX SCORE LAS VEGAS, Nev. - For the second straight game, Prairie View A&M suffered a late breakdown as Brown University used a pair of big second half runs en route to an 81-71 win in the finale of the Las Vegas Invitational on Friday.
Similar to Thursday's game, the Panthers found themselves in another dogfight from the opening tip as there were several lead changes. The Panthers worked hard to reclaim a 30-29 lead after a
Karim York layup with 3:46 left but relinquished it shortly thereafter as Brown held on for a 38-37 halftime lead.
Reggis Onwukamuche's free throw knotted the contest at 38-all to open the second half but Brown quickly regained the lead. The Panthers began to lean heavily on Onwukamuche from that point as the senior post scored seven of the next nine points for the Panthers. However, Brown would answer as they went on a 12-2 run over a two-minute span to lead 67-50 with 9:37 remaining. Once again, the Panthers had a hill too high to climb as Brown maintained their double digit margin the remainder of the game as they claimed its second win over PVAMU in school history.
Tre Hagood had a solid game with 23 points, five rebobunds and four steals while
John Brisco followed with 16 points, four rebounds and three steals. Onwukamuche also had a solid night in the paint as he finished with 12 points and four rebounds. Defensively, the Panthers racked up the steals with a total of 16 for the game.
The team returns to Prairie View for its lone home contest of the semester on Wednesday, Dec. 3 versus Schreiner University. The contest is part of a doubleheader as the women's team will also face Schreiner beginning at 5:30 p.m.
