WOMEN'S BASKETBALL
Prairie View A&M commences its three-game homestand this evening with a match-up against Grambling State inside the William Nicks Building.

The Lady Panthers are coming off their finest offensive performance of the season as they rolled past Jackson State 92-76 on Saturday afternoon.  With the win, Prairie View A&M has captured sole possession of third place in the SWAC standings with seven games left in the 2013-14 regular season.

Sophomore post Shamiya Brooks has grabbed five or more rebounds in every SWAC contest this season.  She has recorded 19 blocks over the past six games and has four career double-doubles.

Prairie View A&M has dominated Grambling State since 2006 as they're 19-1 against GSU during that span.  GSU's last win over PVAMU occurred on Feb. 15, 2010 in Prairie View, Texas as they defeated them 68-65.  PVAMU was down to only nine players due to injury at the time.

The Lady Panthers claimed a 72-61 win in Grambling, La. on Jan. 20.

Junior guard Jeanette Jackson has doubled her scoring average from last season as she's scoring an average of 18.9 points per outing.

The Lady Panthers were picked to finish second in the Southwestern Athletic Conference this season after capturing their third consecutive NCAA Tournament Berth and SWAC Tournament Championship in 2013.

The Prairie View A&M Panthers close out their three-game homestand this evening against the Tigers of Grambling State.  With the second half of SWAC play underway, every point counts as seeding is at stake for the upcoming SWAC Tournament in March at the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas.

MEN'S BASKETBALL
At stake tonight is an opportunity for the team's second three-game winning streak of 2014 as the Panthers have successfully defended their homecourt with two straight wins over TSU and JSU (53-50).

As a result of the win, the Panthers are creeping back towards the top of the SWAC standings as they're a half-game out of third place and one-and-a-half games from second place.

PVAMU has won 12 of the past 13 games versus GSU since 2008 and has not lost to the Tigers in the Baby Dome since Jan. 13, 2007.  The Panthers used a big second half rally last month in Grambling, La. during a 83-82 comeback win over the Tigers.

Grambling State had a 45-game NCAA Division I losing streak and 28-game SWAC losing streak snapped last week during a 95-80 win at Alcorn State.  The Tigers came within three points of beginning their first winning streak since 2011 as they fell 74-71 at Texas Southern on Saturday night.  Junior guards A'Torri Shine and Antwan Scott lead the team with 14.9 points apiece while Chandler Thomas grabs a team-high 5.1 rebounds per game.

PVAMU's Byron Rimm II is 12-3 lifetime versus Grambling State and 3-0 against GSU head coach Joseph Price on the sidelines.

The 2013-14 Panther roster returns only one starter, seven letterwinners and adds seven newcomers.

The Panthers were picked to finish fourth in the Southwestern Athletic Conference this season.  The team finished fifth in the regular season standings last season and fell in the championship of the 2013 SWAC Tournament.  Senior post Jules Montgomery was named 2013-14 Preseason Defensive Player of  the Year.
