Panthers Lose Third Straight As MVSU Pulls Away In Second Half

BOX SCORE
GREENWOOD, Miss – Even with a change of venue in the Mississippi Delta at the LeFlore County Civic Center, Prairie View A&M's road woes continued as Mississippi Valley used as pair of second half runs for a 75-69 win on Monday night.

The Panthers started out the contest with a solid defensive effort as they held MVSU without a field goal for nearly five minutes while Montrael Scott scored five points to key an early 7-0 lead.

MVSU scored its first points at the 15:29 mark and closed to within 9-7 two minutes later but the Panthers held on to the lead for the next six minutes.  MVSU's Cameron Dobbs nailed a trey for its first lead (21-19) of the night but PVAMU quickly regained it back (23-21) as John Brisco and Scott hit back-to-back jumpers.

The leads held until the 3:14 mark as James Currington hit a jumper but the Panthers took it back after two free throws by Scott.  There were three more ties from that point as the teams were deadlocked at 36-all entering halftime.

Demondre Chapman opened the second half with a layup for a 38-36 advantage but a 9-0 run by the Delta Devils saw them jump ahead 47-38 a little more than three minutes into the half.  Brisco kept the game from slipping away as he scored five points during a 9-2 surge to move PVAMU back within 49-47 at the 13:24 mark.  However, the shots stopped falling for PVAMU and MVSU began to heat up as they opened up a 12-point (61-49) lead with 6:17 left.

PVAMU tried to get back into the contest with a late run as they got within six in the closing seconds but it was too little too late as they dropped the season series to the Delta Devils.

Scott led the Panthers with 14 points while Chapman and Louis Munks finished with 10 each.  Chapman grabbed eight rebounds while Scott finished with four steals.

The Panthers return home this Saturday for a match-up versus Alabama A&M at 5 p.m. in the Baby Dome.
