Panthers Open SWAC Tourney Run Tonight At 8 p.m. In The Toyota Center

MEN'S BASKETBALL QUICK NOTES

Tuesday's game marks the first time ever all 10 SWAC men's teams will participate and the earliest tourney start since 2003 when the first round featured home match-ups for the top four seeds on Tuesday nights.

Prairie View A&M and TSU are the only teams in the SWAC who've played at the Toyota Center as the teams played a pair of games there in 2004 and 2005.

The Panthers are coming off a 64-62 loss to Alcorn State on Saturday night and have dropped seven straight contests dating back to Feb. 17.

The Panthers enter as the No. 8 seed and Tuesday's game marks the second time since 2009 that both teams will meet in postseason play as the Panthers claimed a 65-60 win in Birmingham, Ala.  Mississippi Valley State swept both games this season and has won six of the past eight.

PVAMU head coach Byron Rimm II is 7-12 lifetime versus Mississippi Valley State and 3-5 when coaching in the SWAC Tournament.

MVSU is under the direction of interim head coach Marcus Thomas, whom replaced Chico Potts last week.

The 2013-14 Panther roster returns only one starter, seven letterwinners and adds seven newcomers.

The Panthers were picked to finish fourth in the Southwestern Athletic Conference this season.  The team finished eighth in the regular season standings this season and fell in the championship of the 2013 SWAC Tournament.
