Abilene Christian Claims Doubleheader Sweep Over PVAMU

BOX SCORE 1 | BOX SCORE 2
Nothing went right for the Prairie View A&M Lady Panthers on Wednesday as Abilene Christian cruised to a doubleheader softball sweep at the softball complex.

ACU crossed home 10 runs over the final four innings to claim a 13-4 win in the opener.

ACU moved ahead 3-0 in the first but a three-run second highlighted by RBIs from Monica Cartwright, Katelyn Den Beste and Jalen Morris tied the contest and breathed new life into the team.  Two innings later, ACU busted the game open with five runs on two outs and added another in the fifth and four more in the seventh.  Prairie View A&M would score once more in the fifth as Alexandra Losoya drove in Alisa Navarro.

Both Morris and Lopez led PVAMU with two hits each with Morris, Monica Cartwright, Losoya and Den Beste accounting for RBIs.  Freshman Samantha Arciba dropped her first career decision as she lasted 3.2 innings.

ACU wasted no time in setting the tone as a nine-run first inning catapulted them to an 11-3 victory in the series finale.

The Wildcats had a nine-run first aided by seven hits and three PVAMU errors to move ahead.  They added another in the second for a 10-0 advantage before Tiffany Robertson's two-RBI fielder's choice led to PVAMU's first two runs in the bottom frame.

An RBI single upped ACU's lead to 11-2 in the fourth while a leadoff solo homer off the foul pole in the fifth by Navarro led to PVAMU's final run of the game.

Brittanie Gardner dropped to 0-2 on the season on the mound while Leanna Flores, Brenicia Woods and Navarro recorded hits.

PVAMU returns to action on Friday as they'll host Northwood at 1 p.m. in Prairie View, Texas.
