Errors Hurt Lady Panthers In 5-0 Loss To TSU

Nothing went right for Prairie View A&M way as an error-prone contest allowed Texas Southern to escape with a 5-0 win in the series opener on Friday afternoon at the PVAMU softball complex.

PVAMU freshman pitcher Olivia Lacewell came up big early on despite having her back against the wall on several occasions.  In the first inning, TSU had runners in scoring position with one out but Lacewell recorded a groundout and an inning-ending strikeout to escape the jam.  TSU once again had a runner on third in the second frame and bases loaded with one out in the third but Lacewell found a way with another inning-ending groundout and a double play, respectively.

After escaping earlier jams, the error bug struck again in the fourth as two errors put runners on for TSU with the second one very costly as a potential inning-ending grounder turned into a run scored for TSU.  Despite the errors, PVAMU escaped the fifth and sixth innings unscathed but back-to-back errors to open the seventh released the floodgates as TSU crossed home four runs for a 5-0 lead.

Offensively, the Lady Panthers failed to get the timely hit when needed as they stranded several runners in scoring position throughout the first six innings.   In the bottom of the seventh, the Lady Panthers attempted to make things interesting as they loaded the bases with only one out.  However, TSU's second baseman robbed a potential RBI from Tiffany Robertson with a diving catch up the middle followed by a game-ending fly out.

Jalen Morris led PVAMU with two hits while Lacewell fell to 1-1 on the season.

The series concludes on Saturday with a noon doubleheader at the softball complex.
