BATON ROUGE, La. - Both the Prairie View A&M men's and women's basketball teams prepare to wind down with its final regular season road trip. The trip begins at Southern tonight in a 5:30 p.m. doubleheader and wraps up in Alcorn State, Miss. on Saturday afternoon at 3:00 p.m. KPVU 91.3 FM will broadcast both games.
WOMEN'S NOTES
The Prairie View A&M women's basketball team prepare for their final two SWAC regular season contests this weekend at Southern on Thursday night and Alcorn State on Saturday in Baton Rouge, La. and Alcorn State, Miss
The Lady Panthers are playing their best basketball of the season as they've won nine of their past 12 contests. With two regular season games left, the team currently stands in third place and needs to protect its ranking as Jackson State sits one game behind. The Lady Panthers only need one win or a JSU loss to clinch the No. 3 seed as they hold the tiebreaker over Jackson State.
Sophomore post
Shamiya Brooks has grabbed five or more rebounds in 15 of the team's 16 SWAC contests this season. She also has recorded 44 blocks on the season for an average of 1.8 per game. She has recorded 28 blocks over the past 11 games and has four career double-doubles.
Led by longtime head coach Sandy Pugh, Southern is locked in a battle with Texas Southern for the No. 1 seed in next week's SWAC Tournament and has won six of the past seven games. They're coming off a 67-62 OT win versus Alcorn State on Saturday. Kendra Coleman leads SU with 18.1 points per game followed by Jasmine Jefferson's 12.1 points.
Junior guard
Jeanette Jackson has doubled her scoring average from last season as she's scoring an average of 19.4 points per outing. She's also the reigning SWAC Player of the Week and a four-time honoree this season. Jackson has already surpassed 1,000 points in her career.
SU leads the all-time series 53-20 and has won 5-of-6 in Baton Rouge, La. dating back to 2007. SU won the conference opener this season by an 88-74 margin.
The Lady Panthers were picked to finish second in the Southwestern Athletic Conference this season after capturing their third consecutive NCAA Tournament Berth and SWAC Tournament Championship in 2013.
MEN'S NOTES
The Prairie View A&M Panthers start their final road trip of the 2013-14 campaign with a trip to Southern on Thursday night and Alcorn State on Saturday afternoon. With only two regular season games left, every point counts as seeding is at stake for the upcoming SWAC Tournament in March at the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas.
The Panthers are coming off a 90-87 loss to Alabama State on Monday night and lost a key opportunity to move up in the SWAC standings. As of tonight, the Panthers are currently in eighth place and would enter next week's SWAC Tournament as the eighth seed and play Mississippi Valley State on Tuesday at 8 p.m. in the Toyota Center.
Southern has wrapped up the regular season championship in their third year under head coach Roman Banks.

Byron Rimm II is 5-11 lifetime versus Southern. His last win over SU was a 72-57 win in Baton Rouge, La. on March 5, 2011. Southern is on a six-game winning streak over the Panthers dating back to 2012.
The 2013-14 Panther roster returns only one starter, seven letterwinners and adds seven newcomers.
