Softball Falls In Doubleheader To Houston-Victoria

BOX SCORE 1 | BOX SCORE 2

VICTORIA, Texas – Prairie View A&M returned to action after a week hiatus as they dropped both games during a softball doubleheader to UH-Victoria at the Victoria Youth Sports Complex on Tuesday.

In game one, PVAMU was held to only two hits as the Jaguars claimed a 5-0 win.  UHV scored a run in the first three innings before a two-run fourth put the game out of reach.  Brenicia Woods and Peyton Simms had one hit apiece while Monnia Cartwright was tagged with the loss in three innings of action.

PVAMU's bats awoke in game two but a four-error performance defensively nullified the team's offense as UHV captured the series with a 13-6 win.

Alisa Navarro's two-RBI triple moved PVAMU ahead 2-0 in the first but UHV closed the gap to 2-1 as a throwing error allowed the first run to score.  Rachel Rodriguez and Jazmin Royal logged RBIs in the third frame for a 4-1 lead but the lead was short-lived as a five-run third saw UHV surge past PVAMU 6-4.  The Lady Panthers knotted the score at 6-all in the fourth as Alexandra Losoya's two-RBI double scored Katelyn Den Beste and Peyton Simms.

However, PVAMU's bats started to cool as they were held to only three hits over the final three innings.  UHV moved ahead 7-6 after the fourth and tacked on six more runs over the fifth and sixth innings to pull away.

Losoya led the way with a 3-for-3 outing which included two RBIs, two runs and two doubles.  Woods, Navarro and Rodriguez also had two hits apiece.  Meah Maddox fell to 0-2 on the year in a relief outing.

PVAMU returns home on Wednesday as they'll face Houston Baptist in a 2 p.m. doubleheader.
