BOX SCORE 1 | BOX SCORE 2

DECATUR, Ala. – Prairie View A&M remained alive in the hunt for its SWAC softball championship as they split a pair of games on Thursday in the SWAC Softball Championship in Decatur, Ala.

Texas Southern jumped out to an early lead and pulled away late as they handed PVAMU its first loss in the tournament by an 11-4 margin.

TSU led 4-0 after two innings of play but PVAMU came charging back as they closed to within 4-3 entering the sixth.  TSU moved ahead 7-3 after a three-run sixth but the Lady Panthers closed to within 7-4 with a run in the bottom of the sixth.  TSU added four more runs in the seventh to pull away as PVAMU went scoreless in the seventh.

After a rough start in its opener, the Lady Panthers found themselves in a pitching duel as they crossed home the winning run in the bottom of the seventh en route to a 3-2 elimination round win over Alabama State.

Brenicia Woods reached base on a fielder's choice in the first, stole second and scored on Alisa Navarro's RBI single for the 1-0 lead.  The 1-0 lead held until the fifth as Monica Cartwright scored on Leanna Flores' RBI for a 2-0 margin.

Alabama State rallied to open the seventh with an RBI double and RBI triple to knot the game at 2-all.  After losing the two-run lead in the top of the seventh, Lady Panther freshman Jalen Morris drew a one out walk and eventually scored the winning run on an ASU fielding error after Peyton Simms' at-bat.

Navarro led the way with a 3-for-3 outing while Cally Falls struck out seven in the complete game performance.
