PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas – The Prairie View A&M soccer team returns to action Friday when they host the Lady Demons of Northwestern State. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Lady Panthers Field.
The Lady Panthers (0-4) are in search of their first victory of the 2014 season. Despite the record, the Panthers have been competitive in every match, dropping their first three contests by one goal, all of them on the road.
Last Friday saw the Panthers fall 3-1 in their home-opener to Texas-Pan American, which went undefeated through its first six contests of the year.
Barring a tie, one of Friday's sets of competitors will snap their losing streak by match's end. The Lady Demons (1-5) opened the season with a 9-1 win over NCAA Division III opponent Louisiana College – a team that is 0-5 on the season and has never qualified for the American Southwest Conference postseason tournament.
Since their win over Louisiana College, the Lady Demons have struggled to find the net, having been shut out in four of their last five contests. Among those shutouts were a pair of 3-0 defeats to Louisiana-Monroe and Texas State, and a 5-0 loss at Baylor.
The Lady Demons last found the back of the net on August 29, when they fell 6-2 at the hands of the LSU Tigers in Baton Rouge.
Reina Mata and
Celene Batrez have scored Prairie View A&M's two goals this season. Batrez gave the Panthers an early 1-0 lead against UTPA before the Broncs struck back with three unanswered goals.
