BOX SCORE PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas – The Prairie View A&M soccer team was again denied its first victory of the season Friday, falling 4-0 to Northwestern State at Lady Panthers Field.
Â
Esdenia Gonzalez scored a pair of goals to lead Northwestern State (2-5), which snapped a five-match losing skid and posted its first win against an NCAA Division I opponent this season. Cassandra Briscoe and Yanci Johnson also found the back of the net for the Lady Demons.
Â
The loss dropped Prairie View A&M to 0-5 on the season. It was the Lady Panthers third defeat against a team from the Southland Conference. (The Panthers also had their match at Lamar suspended due to inclement weather with the score tied 2-2.)
Â
Northwestern State's speed along the touchlines and aggressive offense limited Prairie View A&M's scoring chances during the match. The Lady Demons outshot the home team to 23-9, and held a 12-4 advantage in shots on goal by the end of the match.
Â
Senior goalkeeper
Bianca Garza (Nederland, Texas/Nederland) made eight saves for the Lady Panthers.
Â
The Panthers return to action Tuesday when they host the University of the Incarnate Word. Match time is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. at Lady Panthers Field.
