The Lady Panthers visit Mississippi Valley State on Saturday before concluding their trip with a game at Arkansas–Pine Bluff.
The Lady Panthers (6-11, 3-2 SWAC) are seeking their fourth consecutive win and their first conference victory away from home. Prairie View A&M's last road win came Dec. 17, when they defeated Sam Houston State 70-53 for their first-ever win over the Bearkats.

Jeanette Jackson. Jackson, a senior guard out of Las Vegas, Nev. (Sierra Vista HS) leads the SWAC with a scoring average of 17.1 points per game. She ranks second in the league with 3.9 assists per contest.Â
Brooks (West Point, Ga. / Troupe HS), this week's SWAC Player of the Week, has posted double-doubles in each of Prairie View A&M's last three games. The junior averages 7.4 points and 8.0 rebounds per contest.
The Mississippi Valley State Delta Devilettes (2-14, 0-5 SWAC) are aiming to snap an eight-game losing streak and are seeking their first win this season over an NCAA Division I opponent. The Lady Panthers have won the past three meetings between the teams, including last season's series and a memorable, four-overtime 100-87 win in the 2013 SWAC Championship game.
Last time out … - The Prairie View A&M Lady Panthers (6-11) improved to 3-2 in Southwestern Athletic Conference play with an 85-57 win at home over Grambling State. Shamiya Brooks posted her third consecutive double-double, scoring 13 points and grabbing a career-best 17 rebounds.
- The Lady Panthers won their 10th consecutive meeting against Grambling State, and their 21st in the last 22 contests against the Lady Tigers.
- Alexus Parker had her best shooting night of the season, going 8-for-13 from the floor en route to a game-high 18 points.
- Jeanette Jackson scored 15 points and handed out four assists, while Monique Abbs scored a PVAMU career high 10 points off the Lady Panthers bench.
- The Lady Panthers shot 50.7 percent (35 of 69) from the floor, their best output against an NCAA Division I opponent this season.
Strength of schedule
- Prairie View A&M's non-conference schedule featured four games against teams that were ranked in the Associated Press Top 25 Division I Women's Basketball poll at the start of the season. The Lady Panthers conluded their non-conference schedule at then-No. 6 Baylor on Dec. 29.
- All four ranked teams the Lady Panthers faced this season are currently ranked 12th or higher in both the AP. The four teams were ranked 11th or better at the time they faced Prairie View A&M.
- The Lady Panthers faced three of those teams in a stretch of four games – a 59-41 loss at then-No. 7 Texas A&M on Nov. 24 and losses to North Carolina and Stanford in Honolulu, Hawaii, over Thanksgiving weekend. The Tar Heels and Cardinal were ranked No. 11 and No. 5, respectively, when they faced PVAMU.

- Jeanette Jackson and Chelsey Rosier have proven themselves to be threats behind the 3-point arc, as both players rank in the SWAC's Top 10 in terms of 3-point percentage.
- The duo is responsible for Prairie View A&M ranking third as a team in the SWAC in 3-point percentage (26.6 percent, 75 of 282). The Lady Panthers have made more 3-point attempts than any other team in the SWAC
- Rosier's 3-point percentage of 32.8 (20 of 61) ranks second the SWAC behind Kayla Tucker of Alabama State. The junior guard from Tallahassee, Fla., averages 5.1 points per contest.
- Jackson ranks eighth in the conference, having 30.4percent of her long-range shots. She has made a league best 31 triples on 102 attempts this season.

- Senior guard Jeanette Jackson (pictured) enters Saturday's contest ranked in the SWAC's top 10 in seven statistical categories. A preseason All-SWAC First Team selection, Jackson currently leads the conference in scoring (17.1 ppg) and ranks second in assists (3.9 apg).
- Jackson has made more 3-pointers than anyone else in the conference, having made 31 out of 102 attempts. Her average of 1.8 triples per game also tops the conference.
- She is also reliable from the free throw line, making, 76.7 percent of her charity shots, good for fifth in the conference. Her 99 made free throws and 129 attempts are also league highs.
- Jackson ranks second in the conference in both minutes played (35.0) and assist-to-turnover ratio (0.9).
Abbs-solutely!
- Junior guard Monique Abbs has almost doubled her playing time since the start of league play. The juco transfer is averaging 10.6 minutes per game in SWAC play, compared to 5.4 minutes in non-conference action.
- Abbs scored a four-year college career high 10 points on 4-of-6 shooting in Prairie View A&M's 85-57 rout of Grambling State on Monday.
- She has averaged 4.0 points per game during the Lady Panthers' five SWAC contests this season. She had averaged 2.3 points per game prior to the start of conference play.
Brooks continues strong start to conference play, named SWAC's Player of the Week
- Shamiya Brooks (pictured below) posted her third consecutive double-double in Monday's win over Grambling State, scoring 13 points and pulling in 17 rebounds. She averaged 11.5 points and 13.5 rebounds over her last two games and was named the Southwestern Athletic Conference's Player of the Week on Wednesday.
- Brooks ranks second in the SWAC in rebounding, grabbing an average of 8.0 caroms a game through 16 contests to go along with a scoring average of 7.4 points per contest. Only Alabama State's Jasmine Peeples averages more rebounds among SWAC players, pulling in 9.3 per game.
- She is also second in the conference in blocked shots, swatting away an average of 1.8 per game. Peeples leads the conference in that category with 3.4 blocks per contest.
- Brooks has been especially helpful on the offensive glass, averaging a league-best 4.1 rebounds on the offensive end of the court. Those offensive rebounds have led to some easy baskets for Brooks, who ranks fourth in the SWAC with a .486 field-goal percentage.
- Brooks is averaging 10.0 points and 9.8 rebounds per game in SWAC play, and has shot 57 percent (21 of 37) in Prairie View A&M's five conference games.
The road goes on forever; at least it seems that way
- The Lady Panthers have plenty of experience on the road this season, playing 11 true away games and 13 games overall away from Prairie View A&M. However, the Lady Panthers have also found trips to be less than kind to them, as they are 2-11 away from William J. Nicks Arena.
- The Lady Panthers shoot 31.3 percent (240 of 767) on the road, more than 14 percentage points lower than they shoot at Prairie View (45.8, 119 of 260). (All road statistics in this section include the two neutral-court games played in Hawaii in November.)
- Jeanette Jackson averages 17.0 points and 3.8 assists per game away from home. She shoots just under 30 percent (29.9, 61 of 204) from the field, but is a consistent threat at the free throw line (76.2 percent, 77 of 101).
- Shamiya Brooks averages 5.9 points and 6.7 rebounds on the road. Alexus Parker ranks second on the team with a scoring average of 6.9 points away from home.
Sympathy for the Devil(ettes)
- The Mississippi Valley State Delta Devilettes enter Saturday's contest with a record of 2-14. They are winless in SWAC play thus far, having lost their first five league games.
- The Delta Devilettes are winless in 14 games against NCAA Division I competition this season. Their only wins this season came at home against Talladega College and Philander Smith College, both members of the NAIA's Gulf Coast Athletic Conference.
- Mississippi Valley State is currently on an eight-game losing skid entering Saturday's contest. Last weekend, they lost a hard-fought 52-47 game at Alcorn State before losing 70-51 at Southern.
- Christina Reed leads the Delta Devilettes in scoring and in rebounding, averaging 12.2 points and 7.3 rebounds per contest. The 5-foot-10 sophomore from Indianola, Miss., ranks eighth in the SWAC in scoring, fifth in rebounding, and sixth in field goal percentage (.472, 76 of 161)
- Fellow sophomore Ashley Beals (6-0, Canton, Miss.) averages 11.4 points and 6.3 rebounds per game. Beals shoots 40.4 percent (57 of 141) from the floor.
- The Delta Devilettes rank last in the SWAC in both scoring (48.7 points per game), scoring margin (-19.8) and turnovers (26.7) per game.
- The 3-point line will be key in Saturday's game: The Lady Panthers rank third in the conference in 3-point shooting (26.6 percent) and have shot more 3-pointers (282) than every other team in the league with the exception of Grambling State. The Delta Devilettes rank second in the SWAC in 3-point defense: Teams are only shooting 26 percent (67 of 258) against them from long range.
Prairie View A&M vs. Mississippi Valley State
- Mississippi Valley State has won two out of every three contests against Prairie View A&M since the start of the championship era in NCAA women's basketball. The Delta Devilettes are 46-23 against the Lady Panthers since the start of the 1981-82 season.
- The Lady Panthers have held the edge as of late, winning 13 of the last 18 meetings since the start of the 2006-07 season. Prairie View A&M swept last season's series.
- The teams played in one of the most memorable SWAC championship games in league history on March 16, 2013. After being swept in the regular season series, the Lady Panthers outlasted the Devilettes 100-87 in four overtimes to claim their third consecutive SWAC championship.
