Panthers Cruise By Alabama A&M With Team Effort

All five starters scored in double figures as Prairie View A&M dominated from the opening tip in an 89-63 win over Alabama A&M on Saturday evening in the Baby Dome.

Alabama A&M scored the first four points of the contest but it was all Prairie View A&M from that point as Karim York scored nine of the next 12 points for the Panthers as they led 12-4 with 15:19 remaining.  The three-ball would fall in PVAMU's favor several minutes later on Jacoby Green's trey for a 15-4 lead and the PVAMU defense caused havoc over the Bulldogs as they wouldn't score until the 11:54 mark.

John Brisco made his return to the starting lineup known with a three-pointer followed by four consecutive points from Jaryn Johnson as the Panthers exploded for a 22-7 lead right before the halfway mark of the half.

Alabama A&M narrowed its deficit to 30-16 several minutes later after three free throws from Tyler Houston.  However, the Panthers continued their dominance throughout the half en route to a 47-23 halftime advantage.

It was all Prairie View A&M in the second half as the Panthers led by as much as 30 but no less than 22 points as they emptied their bench en route to their fourth win in five games.

"It was a team effort as we played well on both ends of the court," said head coach Byron Rimm II. "Guys gave up their bodies for charges and we received nearly flawless execution on offense.  We'll work some on things at practice tomorrow for Alabama State and get ready to play on Monday."

Montrael Scott, who was honored in a pregame ceremony for eclipsing the 1,000-point mark, led the way with 22 points. York and Brisco added 13 points while Tre Hagood and Reggis Onwukamuche added 10.  Onwukamuche also added nine rebounds wile Hagood had six assists.

The Panthers are back in action on Monday versus Alabama State at 7:30 p.m. in the Baby Dome.
