PANTHERS LOOKING FOR ROAD SPLIT AT ALCORN STATE

The Prairie View A&M Panthers prepare for their second SWAC matchup with a trip to Lorman, Miss. for a contest at Alcorn State on Monday night at 7:30 p.m.  After dropping their SWAC opener to Southern, the Panthers are looking for a road split in a gym they have not won in since 2012.  After a tough non-conference slate which saw the Panthers play a rigorous, road heavy schedule, the second half of the season is one game in as the Panthers aspire to capture their first regular season title since the 2002-03 campaign.

HONOR A FALLEN PANTHER
Head coach Byron Rimm II and the Prairie View A&M family lost a former Panther recently in former student-athlete Mayol Riathin.  Riathin, who played for the Panthers from 2011-2013, died recently in a car accident which took place in the state of Wyoming.  Riathin wore No. 33 during his tenure at PVAMU and the number will not be worn this season as it was originally assigned to Nolan Wilson.

THE SERIES
Alcorn State holds a 67-30 edge over Prairie View A&M.  The Panthers have won 11 of 17 contests versus the Braves dating back to March of 2007.

ABOUT THE PANTHERS
Prairie View A&M returns four starters from last year's team which advanced to the finals of the SWAC Basketball Tournament for the second consecutive season.  The Panthers also return a total of six letterwinners but lose a total of seven lettermen.  Senior guard Montrael Scott received first team preseason honors as the Prairie View A&M men's basketball team was picked to finish sixth in the annual SWAC Men's Basketball Preseason poll.

Scott leads the team in scoring with 14.5 points per game while senior guard John Brisco ranks second in scoring with 12.3 points per game.  Fellow senior guard Tre Hagood has upped his scoring output to 9.8 points per game and a team-high 5.4 rebounds and 4.8 assists.  Junior post Karim York is the team's second-leading rebounder with five per game along with chipping in 9.5 points.

LAST TIME THEY MET
Alcorn State 64
Prairie View A&M 62
Sat., March 8, 2014

LeAntwan Luckett converted two free throws with two seconds left to lift Alcorn State to a 64-62 win over Prairie View A&M in the regular season finale Saturday.
John Brisco hit two free throws with 29 seconds left to give Prairie View a six-point lead, but Stephan Raquil scored to cut the lead to four points and Luckett drilled a 3-pointer with 12 seconds left to pull Alcorn State with one.
The Panthers (8-22, 6-12 SWAC) struggled through their worse season since 2007-08, when they also finished 8-22. Alcorn State (12-18, 9-9) had an 18-point lead in the first half behind Twan Oakley, who scored eight of the Braves first 17 points. Prairie View opened the second half with an 18-4 run to get back into the game. Luckett and Josh Nicholas each scored 13 points to lead Alcorn State. Montrael Scott had 17 points to lead Prairie View.

THE LAST TIME
Head coach Byron Rimm II is 4-4 in the Whitney Complex since assuming the reigns at Prairie View A&M in 2006 with his last win in the facility in 2012.

RIMM vs. ASU
Monday's game marks the 19th time head coach Byron Rimm II will face Alcorn State.  As the head coach at PVAMU, Rimm has faced ASU 18 times and compiled a 11-7 mark.

PV vs. ASU SERIES
Alcorn State holds a 67-30 edge over Prairie View A&M. The Panthers have won 11 of 17 contests versus the Braves dating back to March of 2007.

ROAD WARRIORS
In non-conference play, the Panthers have lived out their suitcases this fall as 12 of their 13 contests were away from campus.  Prairie View A&M traveled to a total of four states (Hawai'i', Nevada, Oklahoma, Tennessee) and played in three different time zones (Central, Hawaii-Aleutian, Pacific). The team's lone non-conference home game took place on Dec. 3 versus Schreiner.

DEFEND THE 3
The Panthers rank first in the SWAC in three-point field goal defense as their holding teams to 31 percent shooting.
