PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas – Mississippi Valley State snapped Prairie View A&M's three-match winning streak Friday as the Devilettes claimed a 6-1 victory.

In front of the largest crowd to attend a Prairie View A&M soccer match this season. Nykosi Simmons compiled a hat trick to lead the Devilettes (5-6-1). Simmons scored in the 7th, 39th, and 75th minutes.

The win allowed Valley to move past the Lady Panthers into second place in the Southwestern Athletic Conference standings with a 2-0-1 league record.

Clarisa Maldonado gave the Lady Panthers (5-4-1, 2-1 SWAC) the early lead when she redirected
Alicia Cooper's in the goal box past Valley's goalkeeper Rita Gyasi less than three minutes after the opening whistle. It was Maldonado's first goal of the season.

Ernestina Abambila netted the match-winning goal in the 19th minute when she took a free kick from the left wing just outside the penalty area and launched a shot into the upper-left near corner.

Karenth Zabala Terrazas and Haley Hendricks also scored goals for the Devilettes. Simmons assisted on Zabala Terrazas' goal two minutes from halftime, while Laadi Issaka assisted on two goals in the match.

After Maldonado's goal early in the match, the Devilettes controlled the pace of the match, firing 10 of the contest's first 12 shots. PVAMU goalkeeper

Mississippi Valley State also helped its cause by controlling the vast majority of long passes during the match.

The Lady Panthers return to action Sunday when they host winless Alcorn State. Match time is scheduled for 1 p.m.

MATCH NOTES: - Mississippi Valley State snapped a three-match losing streak to Lady Panthers dating back to the 2012 season.
- The Devilettes won in Prairie View for the first time since a 1-0 victory in October, 2011.
- Valley's six goals were the most by a visiting team in Prairie View since Louisiana Tech's 8-0 victory Oct. 4, 2008.
- The loss dropped Prairie View A&M into third place behind Alabama State (2-0 SWAC) and Valley (2-0-1 SWAC).
