AUSTIN, Texas – The Prairie View A&M Lady Panthers won their first true road match of the season Wednesday as they swept Huston-Tillotson on the Lady Rams' home floor.

The Lady Panthers withstood the oppressive heat and raucous home crowd at the tiny, un-air conditioned Mary Branch Gymnasium on the Huston-Tillotson campus to claim their second win in their last three matches.

Scores of the match were 25-13, 25-14, and 25-21.

Prairie View A&M hitter MoKeysha Shanklin led the Lady Panthers with seven kills in a homecoming match of sorts; the sophomore played high school volleyball Eastview High School in Georgetown, just north of Austin.

The Lady Panthers improved to 5-21 with the win. Huston-Tillotson, an NAIA member program that competes in the Red River Athletic Conference, fell to 3-15.

Jasmine Lewis, Randi Hunter, and Marissa Campbell all knocked down five kills apiece for the Lady Panthers. Campbell is also a central Texas product, having graduated from Round Rock's Stony Point High School.

Senior setter Ana Kiso led Prairie View A&M with 18 assists, while Sydney Walker led the defensive effort with nine digs. Hunter led the defensive frontline with five blocks for the Lady Panthers; she also hit .625 for the match, committing no errors on eight attempts.

D'Janae Robinson knocked down a match-high 12 kills for Huston-Tillotson.

The Lady Panthers breezed to a win in the opening set, jumping out to a 12-2 lead. They never saw their lead dip into single-digits for the remainder of the set. The Lady Panthers .520 (14 kills, one error, 25 attempts) for the first set.

The Rams steadily improved over the course of the match, but just couldn't overtake the superior Prairie View A&M team. HT kept pace with its visitors in the second set, but a 5-0 run midway through the set gave the Lady Panthers a comfortable 19-11 lead; Walker served two of her match-high four aces during that stretch.

Prairie View A&M jumped out to an early 6-1 lead in the third set, but found the Rams would not succumb easily in front of their home crowd. HT used a 5-0 run to pull to within a single point at 11-10, but would not tie the Lady Panthers for the rest of the set.

Huston-Tillotson would pull to within one point again in the third set, but once again, the Lady Panthers were up to the challenge, going on an important 3-1 run to stretch their lead to 22-19; Walker knocked down two of her three kills during the run.

The Lady Panthers return to action Friday to face Southwestern Athletic Conference rival Arkansas–Pine Bluff for Prairie View A&M's annual Dig Pink match. Match time at Prairie View A&M's William J. Nicks Arena is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
