The Lady Panthers started the season 1-0 for the first time since 2011, when Prairie View A&M defeated Rice 61-58 at home. Now, the Lady Panthers are eyeing their first 2-0 start since 2006, when they defeated Division II program Texas A&M–Commerce, followed by a win over their opponents for tonight's game, the Lady Colonels of Nicholls State.
Larissa Scott and
Alexus Parker both recorded double-doubles in the Lady Panthers' win over Howard Payne. Scott pulled in a career-high 21 rebounds and scored 19 points; she added four blocked shots to our stat line. Parker added 15 points and 13 rebounds for Prairie View A&M.
Tori Carter came off the bench to score 20 points for the Lady Panthers.
Prairie View A&M and Nicholls State are facing each other for the first time December 8, 2007, when the Lady Panthers edged the Colonels 56-51. The teams have split the previous six meetings between each other since the NCAA began sponsoring women's basketball in 1981.
The Lady Panthers were picked to finish fourth in the regular season standings according to the preseason poll of SWAC coaches.
Nicholls State enters tonight's game 1-0 after defeating NAIA Southern–New Orleans 98-65. The Lady Colonels were picked to finish eighth in the Southland Conference preseason polls.
