WICHITA, Kan. – The Wichita State Shockers held Prairie View A&M to 25 percent shooting Friday as they defeated the Lady Panthers 64-36 at the Shocker Winter Classic.
Rangie Bessard recorded a double-double to lead the Shockers (2-7), scoring 24 points and grabbing 10 rebounds in the game.
Lamaria Cole, Prairie View A&M's leading scorer this season, led the Lady Panthers with 14 points. She also grabbed five steals.
Alexus Parker scored eight points and pulled in seven rebounds for Prairie View A&M (4-3).
Larissa Scott chipped in seven points with eight rebounds.
The Lady Panthers stayed close to their hosts through the first period and early into the second period. A 3-pointer by
Jeronia Allen with 8:15 remaining in the second quarter cut Wichita State's lead to 17-14. From there, the Shockers scored eight unanswered points and finished the period by outscoring Prairie View A&M 16-2.
Wichita State took a 33-16 lead into the midgame break. The Shockers held Prairie View A&M to 25 percent shooting (13 of 52), while shooting 50 percent from the field (26 of 52).
The Lady Panthers conclude play at the Shocker Winter Classic on Saturday when they face North Dakota State. Tipoff is scheduled for 12:05 p.m.
