BOX SCORE 2 ARLINGTON, Texas – Prairie View A&M had a rough start at the UT Arlington Invitational with a pair of losses to Missouri-Kansas City and UT Arlington on Friday.
The Lady Panthers struggled from the plate in the opener with only two hits as UMKC scored in every inning en route to a 15-4 win.
UMKC opened with two runs in the first frame and scattered 13 runs over the next five innings. PVAMU scored four runs in the fifth inning as Kylar Ward-Flowers, Jalla Johnson and Peyton Simms had RBIs. Sophomore pitcher Olivia Lacewell fell to 0-3 on the season as she lasted two innings.
A 12-run first inning by UTA set the tone as the Lady Panthers dropped a 19-3 decision in five innings.
The Lady Panthers were nearly out of the first inning as starter Monica Cartwright logged consecutive strikeouts with the bases loaded. However, a bases loaded walk and a fielding error opened the floodgates as the Lady Panthers were down 12-0. UTA tacked on three more runs in the second before PVAMU scored four times in the fourth.
Freshman Destinee Williams and senior Jazmine Hicks led the way with two hits apiece while senior Alisa Navarro had two RBIs.
PVAMU is back in action tomorrow afternoon as they'll battle DePaul at 4 p.m. and Texas tech at 6 p.m.
