Prairie View A&M's historic season came to an abrupt end on Friday night as TSU claimed a 90-77 win inside the Toyota Center in the semifinals of the SWAC Tournament.
With a berth to the SWAC Tournament Championship at stake and the rivalry of both schools, emotions were at an all-time high as both teams came out playing for their lives. Junior forward Karim York led the early charge for a 10-5 lead before TSU answered with seven straight to lead 12-10 with 14:21 left.  John Brisco responded with a trey to give PVAMU a 13-12 margin but TSU put forth another 8-0 run to lead 20-13 before senior post Reggis Onwukamuche hit a turnaround jumper in the paint to close the deficit to 20-15.Â
TSU led 24-15 with 11:04 remaining before the Panthers made a charge as layups by Tre Hagood and Montrael Scott along with a basket from York narrowed the gap to 24-21 with 9:17 left. Prairie View A&M would continue to fight and narrowed the score to three points (30-27) at the 5:58 mark but another surge by TSU saw the one possession lead turn into 41-29 margin after an 11-2 run. The Panthers managed to hang in there and cut the deficit to 41-33 at the half as Onwukamuche hit a last second layup.
Prairie View A&M fought to open the second half and closed to within 50-44 after York's three-point play with 14:40 left.  However, the Panthers found themselves in early foul trouble and the game would slip away over as TSU outscored them 28-4 over the next six minutes as TSU led 74-52 with 8:36 on the clock. Prairie View A&M fought back and would get within 10 on three occasions with the last time at the 5:19 mark.
However, the foul trouble would continue to haunt the Panthers from that point as TSU pushed the lead back to 18 and never looked back as they shot 30-for-37 from the charity stripe while PVAMU only attempted 12 free throws the entire game.
Scott led PVAMU with 21 points and seven rebounds in his final game as a Panther while Hagood scored 18 and York added 15.
