PANTHERS CLOSE OUT REGULAR SEASON, HONOR SENIOR CLASSThe 2014-15 regular season comes to an end Saturday evening in the Baby Dome as the Prairie View A&M Panthers host Alcorn State for their senior day festivities. Montrael Scott are playing their final home game in the dome.
Prairie View A&M suffered a heartbreaking defeat on Thursday night as they lost to Southern 77-73. With the loss, the Panthers saw their window of opportunity close in their quest to finish in third place as the loss clinched fourth place and the No. 4 seed in next week's SWAC Tournament in Houston. In addition, the team's historic seven-game winning streak came to a close and the opportunity to finish the second half of SWAC play undefeated.
HONOR A FALLEN PANTHERHead coach
Byron Rimm II and the Prairie View A&M family lost a former Panther recently in former student-athlete Mayol Riathin. Riathin, who played for the Panthers from 2011-2013, died recently in a car accident which took place in the state of Wyoming. Riathin wore No. 33 during his tenure at PVAMU and the number will not be worn this season as it was originally assigned to
Nolan Wilson.
THE SERIESAlcorn State holds a 68-30 edge over Prairie View A&M. The Panthers have won 11 of 18 contests versus the Braves dating back to March of 2007.
ABOUT THE PANTHERSHagood is playing lights out as he's coming off a 32-point outing versus Southern on Thursday and is averaging 12 points, 5.4 rebounds, 4.9 assists and 2.2 steals. Scott, who surpassed the 1,000-point plateau in his career on Jan. 24 at Mississippi Valley State, is PVAMU's top scorer and ranks fourth in the SWAC with 14.5 points per game. Karim York is the team's second-leading rebounder with 5.3 per game along with chipping in 9.1 points. Onwukamuche is playing the best basketball of his career as the Missouri City, Texas native ranks second in the SWAC with 1.6 blocked shots per outing, 10th with 5.3 rebounds and second with 2.5 offensive rebounds per game. He has accounted for 27 of the team's 39 blocked shots over the past six games.
