GRAMBLING, La. – Grambling State swept a Sunday doubleheader from the visiting Prairie View A&M Panthers, winning by scores of 11-0 and 12-2.
The Tigers' Dion Holbrook tossed a seven-inning no-hitter in the opener, striking out three batters and walking four in leading Grambling State (7-26) to the win.
With the sweep, the Tigers improved to the 5-11 in the Southwestern Athletic Conference's West Division. Prairie View A&M (10-28) fell to 4-16 in the SWAC's West Division standings.
A two-RBI single by Grambling State's Larry Barraza gave the Tigers an 11-0 lead in the bottom of the sixth inning. When the Panthers were unable to score in the top of the seventh, the Tigers claimed the truncated victory.
In game two, the Tigers scored the first six runs of the game and went on to a second seven-inning win. Edwin Drexler's home run in the bottom of the seventh gave Grambling State a walkoff win.
Grant Dougherty accounted for both of Prairie View A&M's RBIs in game two. He knocked a single in the third inning to score
Walter Wells to cut GSU's lead to 6-1. In the fifth inning, Dougherty smacked a solo home run.
Joseph Mack started for the Panthers in game one, absorbing the loss.
Alberto Aveytia was Prairie View A&M's pitcher of record in game two.
The Panthers and Tigers conclude their series Monday with the finale game. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
