Texas–Pan American defeats Prairie View A&M 14-4

PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas – The middle of the Texas–Pan American proved to be too much for the Prairie View A&M Panthers as the Broncs claimed a 14-4 win Tuesday.

Pan American first baseman Victor Garcia Jr. went 3-for-3 with a home run and five RBIs to lead the Broncs (14-23-1) to the victory. Shortstop Jesus Garcia also knocked three hits and drove home two runs, while leadoff hitter Logan Landon went 3-for-5 with a home run and three RBIs for the Broncs.

Prairie View A&M fell to 10-30 with the loss.

Alex Henson picked up his first win – and first decision – of the season for Texas–Pan American, scattering two hits and striking out three while giving up an earned run. He pitched four innings, and when the Broncs were able to finish the game after the seventh inning via the run rule, Henson became the winning pitcher.

Charles Philpott absorbed the loss for the Panthers, giving up nine runs over four innings of work. He struck out four batters, all in the first two innings. Edward Robledo pitched a scoreless seventh inning for Prairie View A&M.

The Panthers struck first when Walter Wells led off the bottom of the first inning with a double down the right field line. He then moved to third on Carson Lee's (pictured) groundout, and then scored on Joseph Mack's RBI single.

The momentum would not stay with the Panthers, however, as Texas–Pan American, a member institution of the Western Athletic Conference, scored 14 consecutive runs. The Broncs doubled their score with a seven-run outburst in the sixth inning.

In the bottom of the sixth, the Panthers loaded the bases with nobody out, and then scored their first run of the inning when Lee scored on Cody Den Beste's RBI fielder's choice. Connor Wrye then added an RBI of his own when a sacrifice fly scored freshman Marlan Chatman, who drew a pinch-hit walk to reach base for the first time in his collegiate career.

The Panthers added another run in the bottom of the seventh inning when Joe Benes knocked an RBI single to score pinch hitter Darrien Williams. Prairie View A&M had runners on second and third base when Pan American relief pitcher Ryan Jackson recorded a strikeout to end the game.

Tuesday's game was the fourth in three days for the Panthers, who had their conference series at Grambling pushed back to Sunday and Monday because of the threat of inclement weather.

The Panthers will have little time to rest as they host Huston-Tillotson in a doubleheader on Wednesday. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m. With a chance of rain in the Prairie View area in Wednesday's forecast, any time changes for Wednesday's doubleheader will be announced on pvpanthers.com and on the Prairie View A&M social media accounts.
