Softball's Bats Stay Hot As They Claim Series With 17-6 Win Over Grambling State

GRAMBLING, La. – Prairie View A&M's bats continued to sizzle on Saturday as Destinee Williams recorded six RBIs in a 17-6 series clinching rout over Grambling State.

PVAMU wasted no time in setting the tone as Williams drew a leadoff walk to open the contest and stole second to move into scoring position before scoring on Peyton Simms' sacrifice fly.

The Lady Panthers blew the game open in the third with an eight-run frame as Jazmine Hicks doubled home Simms for the inning's first run and stole home to increase the lead to 3-0.  Amanda Ford drove in Kylar Ward-Flowers for a 4-0 advantage followed by Jalla Johnson's single and Monica Cartwright's RBI single to up the lead to 5-0.  Williams broke the game open as she homered to increase the margin to 9-0.

Grambling State added two runs in the fourth but PVAMU responded with a run in the fifth as Alisa Navarro drew a bases loaded walk for a 10-2 lead.  GSU narrowed the gap to 10-4 in the fifth with PVAMU answering with a pair of runs in the sixth thanks to RBIs by Ford and Williams to lead 12-4.

GSU wouldn't go away as they plated two more runs in the sixth for a 12-6 deficit but PVAMU put the game away for good in the seventh as Navarro led the inning off with a score followed by Ward-Flowers' two-run homer.  Regan Richard and Williams drove in two more runs for the final margin as PVAMU captured its second conference series of the season.

Johnson finished 3-for-5 with three runs while Ward-Flowers went 3-for-5 with two runs and two RBIs.  Ford was 2-for-5 with two runs and two RBIs followed by Williams' 2-for-4 performance with two runs and six RBIs.  Olivia Lacewell picked up her second consecutive win as she struck out two in five innings of action.
