BOX SCORE 2 SAN ANTONIO – Prairie View A&M dropped a doubleheader to Incarnate Word Wednesday afternoon at Cardinals Field.
An early lead failed to hold as UIW scored six times in the third en route to a 9-4 win in the opener.
PVAMU opened with a bang as Peyton Simms scored on a fielding error followed by Kylar Ward –Flowers' two-RBI single which scored Destinee Williams and Jazmine Hicks for a 3-0 lead. UIW crossed home a run in the first and broke the game open in the third with a six-run frame to lead 7-3. They tacked on two more runs in the fifth and sixth innings before PVAMU would get back on the board in the seventh as Ward-Flowers drove in her third RBI.
Ward-Flowers, who was playing in her hometown for the first time in her collegiate career, led the way with a 2-for-4 performance and three RBIs while Hicks also added two hits. Sabrina Johnson fell to 1-5 on the season as she pitched 1.2 innings of relief.
PVAMU led early in game two but fell victim to the big inning once again as UIW won 13-1.
Simms drove in PVAMU's first run of the afternoon in the top of the first as Williams scored from third. The early lead lasted for only one inning as UIW plated three runs in the second to lead 3-1. After a scoreless third by both teams, UIW took control of the contest for good as they put forth a 10-run fourth inning which eventually led to the run-rule after five innings.
PVAMU finished with three hits as Williams, Simms and Regan McIivenna had one hit apiece. Monica Cartwright fell to 2-9 on the mound as she pitched 3.1 innings.
