Texas defeats Prairie View A&M 12-4

AUSTIN, Texas – The Prairie View A&M Panthers scored four runs without the aid of a hit in the fourth inning to briefly tie the score Wednesday before succumbing to the Texas Longhorns 12-4.

Texas' Brooks Marlow and Collin Show both homered while leadoff hitter Ben Johnson went 2-for-4 with three runs scored and four stolen bases to lead the Longhorns, who improved to 23-22.

Carson Lee and Jordan Jeanlouis drew back-to-back walks with the bases loaded to account for Prairie View A&M's two RBIs.

Edward Robledo took the loss for the Panthers (14-32) in spite of respectable outing against a team with one of the strongest RPIs of all of Prairie View A&M's opponents. Robledo pitched four innings and scattered eight hits and while giving up six runs, only three of them earned.

Pedro Maldonado pitched three innings of relief for the Panthers, striking out two batters. Jordan Foster also pitched an inning for Prairie View A&M.

Jake McKenzie pitched two innings of relief to pick up the win for the Longhorns.

The Longhorns scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning which started with Johnson reaching base on an error. All three runs plated by Texas in the inning would be credited as unearned runs.

Trailing four nothing heading into the top of the fourth, the Panthers put a scare into their hosts as they would end up sending four runners across the plate. Angel Avalos led off the inning after being hit by a pitch from Texas starting pitcher Josh Sawyer. Grant Dougherty then drew a walk, followed by Cody Den Beste reaching on a fielder's choice that included a throwing error by Sawyer allowing Avalos to score from second base.

Following a walk to Joseph Mack to reload the bases, Jon Malmin came into the game in relief of Sawyer. Malmin proceeded to walk Lee and Jeanlouis, which sent McKenzie to the mound. The Panthers then tied the game when Mack scored on Connor Wrye's 4-6-3 double play ball.

Kevin Macias (pictured) recorded the game's only hit on an infield single right up the middle of the diamond in the seventh inning.

The Panthers conclude the regular season at home this weekend when they host Texas Southern on Saturday and Sunday. Saturday's doubleheader is scheduled to start at noon.
