AUSTIN, Texas – One day after earning his first-ever NCAA National Championship berth, Michael Prejean capped off an historic weekend with his second berth as he qualified in the 110-meter hurdles on Saturday at the 2015 NCAA Division I Track and Field West Preliminary Round.
With his race having to wait longer than expected due to a lightning delay, Prejean took advantage of the extra time as the Houston native finished third in his heat and ninth overall with a time of 13.75. As a result of him finishing third in his heat, he automatically qualified for nationals and will compete in both the 400-meter and 110-meter hurdles.
The nursing major will have a full week to train as the 2015 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships will take place in Eugene, Ore. on June 10-13.
Coached by head coach Chris Clay and assistant Fred Williams, Prejean becomes the second straight student-athlete to compete for a national title as former triple jumper Preston Woodard went to three consecutive national meets from 2011-14.
