Sam Houston State strikes early, goes on to 4-0 win over Lady Panthers

PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas – Sam Houston State found the back of the net four times Sunday as the Bearkats handed Prairie View A&M its first home loss of 2015 in a 4-0 win over the Lady Panthers.

Mariah Titus scored a pair of unassisted goals while teammate Madison Cannon gave the Bearkats the lead for good with a strike in the 10th minute to secure the win for Sam Houston State.

The Bearkats improved to 3-3-1 with the win. The Lady Panthers fell to 2-3-1 with the loss.

Dominique Dillon made eight saves for the Lady Panthers. Sam Houston State goalkeeper Magen Ross stopped five Prairie View A&M shots to earn the shutout.

Though the Bearkats enjoyed the bulk of the match's scoring chances, the Lady Panthers did have a couple of chances to score Sunday. Alicia Cooper saw two of her breakaway shots stopped by Ross.

Trailing 2-0 after the match's first 45 minutes, the Lady Panthers came out attacking after the restart; luck, however, was on the Bearkats side as a well-placed crossing pass from PVAMU's Braelah McGinnis ended up hitting the side of the post.

Katie Ferrara gave the Bearkats breathing room in the 66th minute with a strike from more than 40 yards out that crossed just under the PVAMU crossbar.

The Lady Panthers fell to 1-2 against Southland Conference teams this season.

Prairie View A&M plays its final non-conference match of the season Sunday, Sept. 20, when they host New Mexico State at Lady Panthers Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
