PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas – The Prairie View A&M Lady Panthers returned home for their first home match in more than three weeks Thursday, where they fell in straight sets to Texas–Rio Grande Valley.
The Vaqueros won the match by scores of 25-13, 25-20, and 25-13.
Alisha Watson knocked down a match-high 11 kills and hit .409 to lead the Vaqueros, who improved to 7-7 on the season. Haley Durham added eight kills and was in on nine blocks -- one solo and eight assisted.
Prairie View A&M (0-14) was led by
Randi Hunter, who knocked down seven kills.
Sydney Walker added six kills and recorded nine digs.
Ana Kiso handed out 21 assists for the Lady Panthers, while
Marina Martinez dug out a match-high 11 opposition attacks.
Paige Chuidian added nine digs for the Lady Panthers.
In a very competitive second set, the Lady Panthers fell behind 14-4, only to score eight of the next nine points to pull to within three of the Vaqueros. Hunter knocked down four of her kills during that stretch.
The Lady Panthers return to action Tuesday when they visit Stephen F. Austin. Match time is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Prairie View A&M's next home match is scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 1, when the Lady Panthers face Texas A&M–Corpus Christi.
