BOX SCORE CORVALLIS, Ore. – The Prairie View A&M men's basketball team lost to Oregon State 78-58 in the season opener for both teams.

Daquan Cook led the Panthers with 14 points and four rebounds, and
L.J. Westbrook came off the bench with 13 points and four rebounds in the official first game of the
Byron Smith era.

The Panthers led by as many as five points early at 7-2 on a dunk by J.D. Wallace. Oregon State went on a 6-0 run before the teams traded baskets as the lead changed hands three times before the Beavers took the lead for good at 11-9 with just over 13 minutes to play in the first half. Oregon State lead 36-22 at halftime.

The team traded baskets in the early moments of the second half, and a dunk by Westbrook brought Prairie View to within 11 at 39-28 with 17:24 to play, but would get no closer.

Zachary Hamilton each had eight points for the Panthers, who return to action Monday night at Fresno State.
