SAN ANTONIO – The Prairie View A&M University men's basketball team lost at Texas San Antonio 69-59 Saturday at the Convocation Center.

Daquan Cook led three Panthers in double figures with 12 points,
L.J. Westbrook with 11, and
Zachary Hamilton 10 for the Panthers, who shot 31.5 percent from the field (17-54), and 80 percent from the free throw line (20-25).

The Panthers led 1-0 early before UTSA took the lead and led most of the tightly contested first half. The Panthers tied the score twice in the first half, and regained the lead, 28-27, on a three-pointer by Hamilton with 1:45 to play in the first half. The teams traded scoring possessions for the remainder of the half as UTSA took a 33-30 lead.

In the second half, the Panthers were unable to regain the lead, despite cutting their deficit to one point twice in the final 20 minutes, the last time at 43-42 on a pair of
Avery Lomax free throws with 13:11 to play.

The Roadrunners pushed the lead to double-digits with 6:31 to play. However, an 8-2 run capped by a three-pointer by Hamilton cut the Panthers' deficit to five at 61-56 but PVAMU could get no closer.

The Panthers will play their home opener Tuesday at 7 p.m. vs. Jarvis Christian.
