Men's Basketball Concludes Two-Game Home Stand Facing Lamar

The Prairie View A&M University men's basketball team ends a two-game home stand with a 4 p.m. game Friday hosting Lamar.

The Panthers (2-3) are coming off an 84-69 home win in Tuesday's home opener over Jarvis Christian. All five starters were in double figures in the win, led by Daquan Cook's 17-point, seven-rebound, six-assist game.

Prairie View A&M shot 51 percent from the field in the contest, and will look to put together back-to-back wins for the first time this season before opening a seven-game road trip at Wisconsin Sunday.

The Cardinals (3-1) are off to their best start since 2008-09. The Panthers and Cardinals have faced three similar opponents. PVAMU won at Fresno State, while falling to Oregon State and Texas-San Antonio. Lamar defeated Oregon State and Texas San Antonio, but lost to Fresno State. The Cardinals are coming off a 78-58 home win Tuesday over UTSA.

"They have very solid perimeter three-point shooters and a skilled forward who will be difficult to cover," said Prairie View A&M head coach Byron Smith. "We will have to defend hard and rebound well. They are very physical on defense."
