Panthers Fall At Utah

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – The Prairie View A&M University men's basketball team lost at Utah 92-60 Saturday at the Huntsman Center.

Zachary Hamilton scored a game-high 26 points to lead all scorers. He was nine-of-18 from the field, including a three-pointer, and was seven of eight from the free throw line.  Ja'Donta Blakely scored four points and had a team-high five rebounds, and Avery Lomax tied a career high with eight points and had four assists for the Panthers.

"I don't think we played very well at all," PVAMU head coach Byron Smith said. "Utah is the best basketball team we've played all year, but I thought we still competed. I still saw some positive things, and we just have to move forward, learn from it, and do better the next time around."

Prairie View A&M shot 50 percent from 2-point range (22-44) and committed a season-low six turnovers while playing virtually even with Utah in the second half, outscored only 40-35.

The Panthers got off to a solid start early, trading baskets in not trailing by more than six in the first seven plus minutes.  A basket by Ja'Donta Blakely cut the PVAMU deficit to 13-9 with 12:50 to play in the first half. However, a 12-0 Utah run put the margin at double figures as the Utes pulled away.

The Panthers return to action Thursday at 11 a.m. CT at George Mason.
