The fourth stop on the Prairie View A&M University men's basketball team's seven-game road trip is in San Marcos, Texas as the Panthers face Texas State Saturday at 4 p.m.
Â
The pregame show on the Open Mic Broadcast Network begins at 3:45 p.m. Fans can also watch live via the Texas St. website for $5.95. The official website of PVAMU Athletics,
www.pvpanthers.com, will have live links to listen live, watch live, and get live stats.
Â
The Panthers (2-7) are coming off a very competitive 74-55 loss Tuesday at Kansas State. UNLV transfer
Daquan Cook had his top scoring game of the season with 18 points, and
Zachary Hamilton posted his eighth-straight double-digit scoring game with 14 points.
Â
Prairie View A&M executed the patient, methodical game plan efficiently in the game's first 20 minutes, trailing only 35-29 at intermission. After the Panthers pulled to within three in the early moments of the second half, a 19-4 scoring run by the Wildcats proved to be too much to overcome.
Â
"We slowed the game down a lot offensively," said PVAMU head coach
Byron Smith. "We still want to be fast defensively, but we utilized the shot clock to our advantage. We got almost every shot that we wanted, and it put us in position to rebound better, which we did."
Â
Texas State (4-4) of the Sun Belt Conference is coming off a 72-61 loss at Texas Rio Grande Valley Wednesday night. Kavin Gilder-Tilbury leads the Bobcats in scoring at 17.1 points per game, and is coming off a 20-point game against the Vaqueros.
Â
It will be a familiar face on the opposite sideline for Smith, whose relationship with Texas State head coach Danny Kaspar dates back to the 1980's.
Â
"They are coached by one of the most underrated coaches in the country," Smith said "Danny Kaspar is a phenomenal coach, someone who recruited me when I was coming out of school. I've known him a long time, and I know they'll be well prepared. They play the game the right way. They set screens, box out, crash the glass, get after you defensively, and move the ball on offense."
NEW GAME TIME FOR HUSTON-TILLOTSON GAME: The Panthers' Wednesday Dec. 28 home game vs. Huston-Tillotson will now tip at 3 p.m. at the William J. Nicks Babydome.
