The Lady Panthers will be wearing pink jerseys for their annual Think Pink game in support of Breast Cancer Awareness.
The Lady Panthers (9-10, 5-5 SWAC) are coming off a 50-43 loss at home to first-place Texas Southern in front of their largest crowd of the season. Prairie View A&M listed 2,871 fans in attendance for the women's game against TSU last Saturday.
Lamaria Cole leads the Lady Panthers with a scoring average of 15.8 points per game, which also ranks third in the SWAC. Her 3.9 assists per game and 3.1 steals per game leads the SWAC in both categories.
Senior forward
Larissa Scott contributes 10.9 points and a conference-leading average 10.6 rebounds per game. She ranks 15th in the conference in scoring, just a few tenths of a point ahead of teammate
Alexus Parker. Cole and Scott are also the only two players to be named the SWAC's Player of the twice this season.
Parker, meanwhile, has averaged 11.3 points per game in conference play, and has been the team's leading free throw shooter since the start of the New Year, sinking 80 percent (32 of 40) of her free throws.
The Lady Panthers have two players ranked in the top 20 nationally in three statistical categories. Scott's 5.0 offensive rebounds per game ranks third in the nation, and she ranks 16th among NCAA Division I players in overall rebounding. Cole's 3.1 steals per game ranks 10th in the nation.
The Lady Tigers of Grambling State (10-12, 7-4 SWAC) are seeking their first season sweep of Prairie View A&M since the 2004-05 season. Grambling claimed a 69-66 overtime win over the Lady Panthers in January, ending an 11-game skid against Prairie View A&M dating back to the 2010 season.
Since the NCAA's women's basketball era began at the start of the 1981-82 season, the Lady Tigers lead the overall series with Prairie View A&M 55-25. The Lady Panthers, however, have dominated the series since the 2006 SWAC season, winning 22 of the past 24 meetings between the teams. Last month's win over the Lady Panthers in Grambling was the Lady Tigers' first over PVAMU on their home floor since 2005.
The Lady Tigers are led by guards Shakyla Hill and Jazmine Boyd. Hill leads the team in three major categories – scoring (12.4 points per game), rebounding (5.8 rebounds per game), and assists (3.0 assists per game). Boyd contributes 10.9 points per contest for the Lady Tigers.
