BEAUMONT, Texas – The Lamar Cardinals jumped out to an early lead and didn't look back Tuesday as they defeated the visiting Prairie View A&M Panthers 13-3.
Jaron Hicks had multi-hit day for the Panthers, going 2-for-3 with an RBI single for Prairie View A&M (2-6), who open Southwestern Athletic Conference play this weekend at Texas Southern.
Angel Avalos and Brashard Jones knocked RBI singles for the Panthers.
Darrien Williams hit a triple for the visitors Tuesday.
Jake Nash hit four RBIs for the Cardinals, hitting an two-run home run in the top of the first and one of Lamar's three two-RBI doubles in the second inning.
Travis Moore picked up the win for the Cardinals, allowing one hit and striking out three batters over three innings.
Edward Robledo started and absorbed the loss for the Panthers, pitching one and one-thirds innings.
Phillip Gay (pictured) pitched three and two-thirds innings of solid relief for the Panthers, striking out one batter and walking three while allowing only one earned run.
