MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Prairie View A&M had a rough day on the diamond as they dropped a doubleheader at Alabama State on Saturday.

In game one, ASU scored six runs in the first inning and never looked back en route to a 14-3 decision.

With one out in the first, ASU's Kendall Core hit a three-run homer for an early 3-0 lead and PVAMU was  its own worst enemy as a fielding error scored the fourth run along with a bases loaded walk as the deficit grew to 6-0. ASU would continue its offensive surge as they tacked on eight more runs over the next two innings before PVAMU answered offensively.

Regan Richard drove in PVAMU's first run with an RBI single while Briana Knowles drew a bases loaded walk. Amanda Ford's single scored the final run of the afternoon for PVAMU as the contest would end after four-and-a-half innings.

Kelsey Coronado led PVAMU with a 2-for-3 performance at the plate with a run scored while Taylor Harvill dropped to 0-2 on the mound this season.

Alabama State combined to score four runs in the second and third innings and held on as PVAMU fell 4-0 in the series finale.

The Lady Hornets logged an RBI single in the second with two outs to claim a 1-0 lead. They added three more runs in the third to lead 4-0 with PVAMU's best scoring opportunity coming in the fifth with runners on second and third with two outs. However, the Lady Panthers didn't capitalize as ASU got out of the jam with an inning-ending strikeout.

Monica Cartwright fell to 2-2 on the season while Briana Knowles, Heidi Woodworth and Daneisha Hinton each had a hit.

PVAMU is back in action next Friday as they'll host Alcorn State at 3 p.m.
